Great Taste 2024, Award Winning Da Hong Pao Tea

In July 2024, we were blessed to receive a 1 star great taste award for our Da Hong Pao, Big Bed Robe Oolong tea. Exclusively sourced from the Wuyishan National Nature Reserve.

Among all Bohea teas, Dahongpao (Big Red Robe) has the best reputation. Dahongpao is a myth of Chinese tea, where it is said to “look fit for a beggar, but prized by an emperor and the heart of the Buddha”. However, since 2007, it has been forbidden by the Wuyishan government to pick the tealeaves of the six mother tea trees in the Jiu Long Ke of Wuyi Mountain, so the "true" Dahong pao hasn't been produced since then.

Our premium, now award winning Dahongpao is made from the clones of the original mother trees growing in the original Wuyi Yancha producing area and only available for us to purchase in July every year.

The oolong is baked extremely slowly by charcoal, but as the tea breathes under the air, the charcoal aroma disappears slowly and the tea's original taste and aroma comes out.
Credited by the Guild of Fine Food with 1 star as “An interesting leaf, reddish when infused, delivers a bright amber liquor with notes of stone fruit and prune, alongside gentle sweetness. Not greatly complex, but entirely pleasing”
